Multi-Media Painter Gallery Artist

I have been an artist my whole life. I think I was born with a pencil in my hand. I grew up wanting to draw everything and experimenting with the different ways of creating. Always finding new creative outlets for my artistic ideas. As I have progressed, the responses people have given me over the years have stuck with me in memory.

When I was in the fourth grade, my teacher noticed the way I colored a gradient into my flowers. That same class, my peers were thrilled to see I drew a large scale baseball player for a book we were reading. In middle school, my teacher expressed admiration for a realistic mountain and water landscape I made while emphasizing the modern stylized trees I chose to incorporate. In high school, my “water, woman, and fish” collection was recognized by their use of creativity and mixed media, even featured in the Huntington Beach Art Center exhibit. For my first charcoal drawing course, an older colleague gave me a motivational speech, urging me to continue with my passion for art after watching me make my final portrait piece.

Hearing these comments from different people have been a huge influence on my ongoing journey. I have even recognized the similarities in their responses that they chose to take notice of with my eye for detail, my softness in my work, how my art has a way of coming alive, and my understanding of color theory. These responses have made me realize that these skillsets come to me naturally. I feel drawn to the way I pick out my colors for each piece and the key details I choose to build up on, such as reflective highlights. It provides me with a sense of excitement and fulfillment. I even noticed that when I stop creating, life begins to feel dull. The moment I get back into the groove of things, everything livens up. That is how I know my artworks play a big part in my life.

I enjoy experimentation without restriction, so there is no singular style or medium I consistently like to work with. Mixing media has always been my favorite, being able to combine paint, pencil, ink, plastic, wire, and more. I notice I tend to excel in realism, however, I always find myself getting drawn back into a more illustrative and abstract style. With the wide range in medium and styles, you could find a dominating theme with the inclusion of humans and nature as the subject matters and the use of a cohesive color palette, other than that, there is not much uniform to identify my works with. As of right now, I am developing my abilities as an artist by exploring my interest in working with oil paint and ceramics.
